Lucky Strike - Beyond the Original Reds
"Lucky Strike means fine tobacco" [L.S.M.F.T.] says a traditional tagline associated to this brand. But there's more: Luckies - the Original Reds - created a tradition in the history of tobacco products in America and worldwide, mainly because they advertised one single taste for decades: medium-soft, strong tobacco flavor, plenty of smoke to inhale, etc.
During the second part of the 20th century, most of the tobacco companies in America broadened their range of products: they introduced special flavors, menthol cigarettes, lights, and ultra lights. Lucky Strike did not use the same path and preferred to remain to one single taste. In return, many smokers continued to buy these cigarettes during this time. This happened because most people who smoke don't like to change cigarettes on a regular basis, and the Luckies were the perfect solution for long-term smokers.
However, the turn of the century brought a few changes for Lucky Strike. The brand introduced a new product: Lucky Strike Silver for those interested in smoking lighter cigarettes and enjoying the same original taste. And it must be said, apart from tar, the difference between a regular Lucky Strike cigarette and a Silver one is almost undistinguishable, even by an old smoker.
Other contemporary products (depending on moment and geographical position) include:
- Lucky Strike Convertibles (or Click and Roll). These are similar to Kent convertibles, but the taste is a bit more pungent.
- Lucky Strike Menthol Lights and Menthol 100s. This is the classic menthol flavor advertised by this brand.
- Lucky Strike Mentha Piperita. A particular version of Menthol cigarettes from Lucky Strike.
- Lucky Strike Blue. A light variety of the same brand.
So even if this brand represents today and entire range of products, one must remember the original tagline which is still visible on every pack of Luckies - It's toasted. This proves both: solid tradition and preference for a unique taste. |
